Jane Teresa Anderson is a dream analyst, and author. Though Anderson dismantles the myth that there are a handful of "recurring dreams", she does identify the meaning of a few more frightening dreams that happen. ![]() "They're very centred on the light at the end of the tunnel." "The upside of that is that people are also coming up with really creative dreams of moving forward in life and how to be different and how to interact differently. "Unconsciously, a part of ourselves always feels a sense of grief or loss for our old selves," she shares. ![]() (Getty Images/iStockphoto)Īs the pandemic has progressed, however, Anderson says dreams are evolving towards "processing a sense of loss or loss of the old self." People also reported feeling "trapped" or dreaming of being "out of control" in a vehicle or life-threatening situation, which Anderson says is fairly "self-explanatory." Anderson says dreams are often an analysis of what's happening in our waking lives. "While some of the dreams explored the fear of illness, some people were reflecting what was 'bugging' them at the time - like being locked down with people that were 'getting under their skin." "Many of our dreams at the start of COVID used bugs to symbolise the virus that we were frightened of and we are still frightened of subconsciously," Anderson explains. "When you have this recurring dream, it's important to look back on the past few days, because you have a situation that is making you come back to it to find a resolution to."Īnderson says a stark shift in common dreams occurred at the beginning of the pandemic, with many people experiencing dreams rife with "bugs and vermin in general."
